Shower Valve

A shower valve controls the flow of water from zero pressure while the shower is not being used up to full pressure for shower and any flow in between for various tasks such as lathering. Some higher end models offer a pause button which immediately turns the flow of water off but retains the temperature and pressure so when the button is pressed again the water resumes right where it left off.

These shower valves are useful for conserving water while lathering and shampooing. This is especially useful in small showers where there is not enough room to move out of the water steam to lather properly.

The other main feature of a shower valve is to control the temperature. In the good old days this was controlled with two knobs, one hot and one cold, and the temperature was varied by opening or closing the knobs. This has been combined into one knob know which is typically a ball of slider configuration that keeps the water pressure constant unlike separated versions.
